Making a full-fledged Comic Adaptation

Hello readers, my name is Isabella, and I’m a senior in high school. This blog will focus on my Senior Project, which is to make a comic adaptation of a show on youtube that I like. But only the first episode. I will go into detail on how I draw out comics and what tools I use. I hope you enjoy it!

I got into a Minecraft Roleplay show that has been expanding for three years. Its story revolves around the horror indie game franchise Five Night’s at Freddy’s. The story in the Minecraft Roleplay isn’t age-restricted, but it has some intense moments. As I watched the series, I realized that I could adapt the third season into a comic. It can stand alone as its own story because it’s an amnesia plot. I have tried adaptions before but they were never completed or they were for a homework assignment. I know I will complete this one and I think it will be a fun exercise. It’s also my way of showing my love for the series. I will not be adapting the entire season since episodes are still coming out.

The story is told from multiple perspectives. I have chosen to follow two of them for my comic adaption, TheFamousFilms, and owTreyalP Roleplays. I will do the comic and character sheets digitally. I’ve already finished the first two sheets; I have four more to go.

I always begin with the character sheets when starting a new project. And as I develop the character, I think about the environment they grew up in, their backstory, personality, what they like, etc. I build the world after. Not all cartoonists do this, but it works for me. These first character sheets were very interesting to draw because I’ve never drawn a character sheet in Clip Studio Paint before. Clip Studio Paint is the digital drawing program that I use, along with a WACOM tablet and pen. It was a different medium for me, but I enjoyed it overall. The character sheets look great. In fact, it was cheaper to draw on the computer than on paper simply because I didn’t need to worry about running out of ink or a certain color. I found it relieving.

In my next post, I will go into more detail on how I make character sheets. However, I do wonder how the next four character sheets will turn out because they are more animal-like than human. I also wonder how I could improve my work in the future. But I won’t worry about that right now.

Thanks for reading,
